Derry Brett is a legendary figure in the cannabis industry, best known as the founder of the Amsterdam-based Barney's Farm seed bank, which he established in the late 1980s.
Raised in Ireland, Derry spent several years traveling through Asia and the Middle East (including Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and Nepal) in the 80's, collecting landrace cannabis strains. He spent three years in the Himalayas focusing on selective breeding and developing the art of making Charas.
In 1992, he returned to Amsterdam and took over Barney's Coffee Shop, transforming it into a hub for his breeding operation. He won numerous High Times Cannabis Cups and other awards between 2000 and 2017.
As of 2026, he continues to lead the company, focusing on quality control and collaborating with modern cannabis brands (e.g., Doja, BackPack Boyz) to expand the brand's presence in the US market.
Derry's philosophy focuses on stability, terpene profiles, and high-THC content, under the guiding motto of "Higher & Higher".
